Starting from the relationship between urban - rural areas and the related theory of spatial expansion pattern ,this paper focused on the literature review of the urban - rural development theory and model. The authors tried to provide the theatrical reference and policy basis for promoting urban - rural development and harmonious society through comparison and analysis of the differences on the developed phase ,research emphasis and scale ,research methods of the urban - rural rela2 tionship at home and abroad.
