ADVICE AND HELP FOR OLDER AND DISABLED PEOPLE in partnership with Care and Repair Edinburgh is a not-for-profit agency offering advice and assistance to people who are older or have disabilities. Our services aim to assist people repair, improve or adapt their homes so that they may remain in their own homes in comfort and independence. IMPROVEMENT SERVICE This is a free, confidential and client-orientated service available to owner occupiers and private tenants who are over 60, or have disabilities. On your invitation we will visit you at home to discuss what works may be needed to repair or improve your property. If you then decide to proceed we can help you by: ■ organising for surveys or drawings to be prepared if necessary BEFORE ■ obtaining prices from contractors AFTER ■ helping you explore ways of funding the work, possibly through loans from specialist organisations ■ organising the works through to completion ■ approaching other agencies who may be able to help Other services available from Care and Repair Edinburgh are detailed on the following pages. SMALL REPAIRS SERVICE We employ a qualified joiner who will carry out small jobs in your home. The labour is provided for a small fixed charge, plus the cost of any materials used. Jobs include items such as: ■ repairs to windows ■ fitting handrails ■ draughtproofing ■ fitting locks ■ easing doors and windows HOME FROM HOSPITAL If you are in hospital and need repairs or adaptations before you can return home, we will give your work a high priority. We can liaise with social work staff and occupational therapists to achieve changes in your home. We can give technical advice and help organise small or major repairs. TRADES REFERRAL SERVICE
