The department operates premises at the Winnall Industrial Estate, Winchester employing 34 staff, where the majority of work is undertaken. Workshops also provide a mobile maintenance service throughout the county in response to emergency call-out. This policy manual aims to set out those areas of health and safety that are relevant not only to individual employees for their own personal safety within the department, but also to that of colleagues and visitors, including contractors. To achieve the highest levels in safety standards within the department it is essential that everyone takes responsibility for health and safety and co-operates in the maintenance of risk assessments and safe systems of working. It is vital that managers and supervisors lead by example in encouraging employees to adopt, as a principle, continuous improvement in health and safety.
