1. Scope
范围
a. This standard applies to all confined spaces as defined below. It is important that all II-VI facilities world-wide take certain minimum precautions to prevent confined space accidents that can result in serious or fatal injuries.

b. This II-VI Incorporated standard specifies the corporate minimum acceptable performance level, does not restrict the facility or business unit from adopting stricter standards, and does not relieve the facility of its requirement to comply with all applicable local, state and national governmental regulations.
这份II-VI公司标准规定了企业的最低可接受的绩效水平,并不限制工厂或商业组织采用更加严格的标准,也并不免除其遵守所有适用的当地,州和国家政府法规的要求。
2. Definition. A confined space is a space that:
定义。受限空间是这样的空间:
a. Is large enough and so configured that a person can bodily enter and perform assigned work; and
空间足够大且结构设计为能够使员工身体进入并能进行指派工作;并且
b. Has limited or restricted means for entry or exit (for example, tanks, vessels, silos, storage bins, hoppers, vaults, and pits are spaces that may have limited means of entry.); and
具有进入或离开限定或限制(例如:罐、容器、料仓、储仓、进料斗、拱顶和地坑即具有进入限制的空间);且
c. Is not designed for continuous occupancy; and
不能为员工连续占用;且
d. Has one or more of the following characteristics:
有以下一条或更多的特征:
i. Contains or has a potential to contain a hazardous atmosphere; or
含有或有可能含有有害空气,或
ii. Contains a material that has the potential for engulfing an entrant; or
包含有可能吞没进入者的物质;或
iii. Has an internal configuration such that an entrant could be trapped or asphyxiated by inwardly converging walls or by a floor which slopes downward and tapers to a smaller cross-section; or
具有因向内会聚的墙壁或向下方倾斜并逐渐减小为更小横截面的地面从而使进入者受困其中或发生窒息的内部构造;或者
iv. Contains any other recognized serious safety or health hazard.

3. Labelling. All confined spaces will be labelled with DANGER -- PERMIT-REQUIRED CONFINED SPACE, DO NOT ENTER or other similar language
