Variable Structure Sliding Mode Control for PMSM DTC

Abstract To solve those problems associated with conventional Direct Torque Control (DTC) of
Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine (PMSM), such as high flux and torque ripple, variable
switching frequency, difficulty to accurately control at very low speed and high frequency noise caused
by the high torque ripple, a new variable structure sliding mode (VSS) control strategy is proposed in
this paper. Simulation results verify that the proposed control scheme significantly reduces flux and
torque ripple, preserves fast torque response merit, and shows robust to motor parameters uncertainty,
disturbance, measurement error and measurement noise. It effectively improves dynamic and static
operation performance, and is a novel modified control method for PMSM DTC.
