Important Awards of Journalism The Pulitzer Prize 普利策新闻奖 The Pulitzer Prize is a U.S. award for achievements in newspaper journalism. It was established by a publisher Joseph Pulitzer and is administered by Columbia University. Prizes in journalism are awarded yearly in 14 categories. Each winner receives a certificate and a US$10,000 cash award, except the winner in the public service category, who is awarded a gold medal. The classification of English publication英文出版物的分类 1) 按出版时间，可分为： 日报（day newspaper）, 晨报（morning newspaper）,　晚报（evening newspaper）, 半周报（semiweekly）, 周报（weekly）, 双周报（biweekly） 2) 按报纸的品味，大致可分为两大类：高质量大报（quality papers，也称为“高级报纸”）；通俗小报（popular papers / tabloid，也称为“大众报纸”）。 Quality newspapers: They are serious daily issues. They appeal mainly to the upper and middle classes. Popular newspapers / tabloid: They are smaller in size and contain many photographs. They are not so serious and their stories tend to be sensational. Tabloid is a smaller newspaper format, generally to a weekly or semi-weekly alternative newspaper that focuses on local-interest stories and entertainment, crime stories, gossip columns. (431mm × 279 mm) Berliner is a newspaper format with pages normally measuring about 470?mm × 315?mm. The Berliner format is slightly taller and marginally wider than the tabloid/compact format; and is both narrower and shorter than the broadsheet format. A compact newspaper is a broadsheet-quality newspaper printed in a tabloid format, especially one in the United Kingdom.
