It involves the use of chemical and analytical techniques to monitor and identify pollutants in the environment. One important technique used in environmental analytical chemistry is electrophoresis, which involves the separation of charged particles under the influence of an electric field. This technique is useful in environmental analysis because it can be used to separate and quantify different kinds of pollutants. Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) chips are an important platform for electrophoresis in environmental analysis. They offer several advantages over other materials such as glass or polymer, including low cost, easy fabrication and functionalization, and the ability to perform a wide range of electrophoretic separations. Indirect amperometric detection is a useful technique for environmental analysis using PDMS chip electrophoresis. It involves the use of a redox-active compound to detect charged particles that pass through an electric field. Indirect detection is particularly useful for detecting pollutants that do not have strong UV or fluorescence signals.
