There are so many people whom I wish to extend my thanks to during my composition of the thesis and the past four years of study in the university.
I would first express my appreciation to my supervisor, Miss xxx, whose guidance has been greatly helpful in the writing of the thesis. I have been impressed and inspired by her patience. Without her help and encouragement, I would not finish the paper successfully.
My thanks also go to the School of Foreign Studies, Hunan University of Science and Technology, where I had great opportunities to attend classes and improve myself both in knowledge and character formation.
My thanks also go to my classmates and friends who have helped me in my study and life.
Last but not the least; I’d like to express my gratitude to my parents. Their love and support for me give me endless strength on the way to graduation.
Abstract
Contemporary famous American female writer Edna Annie Proulx’s Brokeback Mountain tells readers the deep affection between two rough men from undeveloped countryside in the United States from 1960s to 1980s. Based on the perspective of Freud’s Triple Personality Theory, the thesis focuses on Ennis’s mental process and behavior, the conflict between love and social ethics and analyzes his love tragedy from three aspects: id, ego and superego, hoping sincerely that more discussion could be spread on ethic principles and social situation that homosexuals have faced.
