ERP in China is expected to grow above average market rates at 18.5%
over the next five years. CIOs, IT leaders and application managers looking
to accelerate their ERP innovation should follow the recommendations in
this research.
Key Findings
■ Local Chinese organizations are investing in comprehensive and technologically advanced ERP
software that supports global operations.
■ Global ERP vendors are iteratively collaborating with customers, industry leaders and user
groups to deliver enhanced China localization.
■ Chinese organizations are highly aware of the benefits of mobilizing access to ERP systems.
Many of them have embarked on mobility initiatives, and are evaluating the mobility offerings
from their ERP vendors.
■ SaaS ERP continues its positive momentum in China, due to its lower initial capital investment
and faster deployment time.
Recommendations
CIOs, IT leaders and application managers:
■ Adopt the Gartner Pace-Layered Application Strategy for ERP strategy prior to enhancing ERP
systems or choosing best-of-breed solutions from local and global vendors.
■ Ensure that, for multinational organizations deploying ERP for Chinese subsidiaries, the system
integrators understand the business environment in China, and have specific expertise in China
localization.
■ Implement a balanced strategy for local Chinese organizations and multinationals to adopt
global best practices/templates and localization.
■ Assess the organizations readiness for change before mobilizing access to ERP, or deploying
ERP processes in the SaaS model.
