FACTORS AFFECTING THE ACTIVITY OF MITOCHONDRIAL AND SOLUBLE ACONITASE* BY SHERMAN R. DICKMAN AND JOSEPH F. SPEYER (From the Department of Biological Chemistry,University of Utah College of Medicine, Salt Lake City, Utah) (Received for publication, June 24, 1953) Considerable information on the intracellular localization of enzymes has been obtained in recent years through the technique of differential cen- trifugation of sucrosehomogenates of tissues and subsequent testing of the fractions for enzyme activity. One of the results of this work has been the demonstration that rat liver mitochondria (Mw) are capable of completely D o oxidizing a wide variety of substrates by way of the reactions of the tri- w n l o carboxylic acid cycle (1). Consequently, mitochondria should contain an a d e active aconitase. This supposition has beei! verified. The aconitase as- d
