Educational System School --According to the text book General Description The system is quite confusing. Compulsory education is for children from the age of 5 to 16. Diploma are awarded by the examining boards. Chart Desciption Type 1 Type2:Private education system Infants’ school:5-7 Prep(preparatory) school Second stage:7-11 Gramma school Comprehensive Public school or Secondary secondary modern school school University TYPE 1 Key words: primary education grammar school secondary modern school comprehensive secondary school Primary Education Children at 5 first enter infants’ school. Two years later, they move to the second stage to continue their primary education for four years. Then they take the ‘eleven plus’ given by the examining boards. Grammar school Most of grammar schools are run on public fund. Children who get high marks in the ‘eleven plus’ go to grammar schools. They emphasize the academic study. They have well-educated teachers and fine equipment. They are preparing pupils to get ‘A’ level in the GCE. Pupils stay here from 11 to 18. Secondary modern school Children who get lower marks are admitted to this kind of school. They give general education as grammar schools do. However they focus on giving students practical instructions to be used in future work. Teachers divide students into different streams,with ‘A stream’ to get ‘O’ level in the GCE at 16.Then they can transfer to the grammar school. Other pupils can just leave school at 16.
