Antenna, as an important component, also faces severe test. Presently, base station covers more and more widely, base station antenna is developing towards the trend of multi-band and miniaturization. the microstrip antenna which has the advantages of small volume, light weight, easy processing and integrated characteristics. Nowadays, microstrip antenna has become the first choice for base station antenna design because of its Small size, light weight, ease of processing and integrated characteristics. Therefore, to develop a base station antenna which has wide band, small size, low profile, dual-polarized is becoming the main topics in the recent research. The thesis mainly researches the antenna in mobile communication, designed an array antenna unit which includes broadband communications, dual-polarized, high isolation for the fourth generation mobile , in addition, making a comparative analysis involved in different forms of antennas about standing wave ratio ,isolation, radiation pattern and other parameters. This paper has discussed and summarized introduces the theory knowledge of microstrip antenna firstly, then also studied the design methods of microstrip antenna and how to improve the antenna performance including several different forms of microstrip antenna.
