Electric Power College of South China University of Technology, Guangzhou 510640, China) Abstract: The ±800 kV Yun-Guang UHVDC transmission system will be in operation, monopolar in 2009 and bipolar in 2010. Then China Southern Power Grid (CSG) will be more complex and its AC/DC hybrid characteristic will be more notable. This paper builds up the pure electromagnetism transient Real-Time Digital Simulator (RTDS) model of AC/DC hybrid systems for CSG in 2010, and performs simulation analysis on it. The results show that the 0.6 Hz oscillation may occure in CSG when the Yun-Guang UHVDC transmission system is in rated-power operation with the island operation mode.
