Introduction: As a critical role in maternal health care, obstetric nurses are exposed to increasing work pressures and stressors. Stress at work can have a detrimental effect not only on obstetric nurses well-being and mental health but also on patient care. Thus, understanding the sources of stress and how obstetric nurses cope with these challenges are essential to enhance the quality of care and nursing practice. This paper aims to examine the sources of work pressure and stress for obstetric nurses and explore their coping strategies. Sources of Work Pressure: 1. High workload and long working hours: Obstetric nursing is characterized by an increased workload, especially during labor and delivery, which involves high-stress situations. Obstetric nursing staff may work long hours, affecting their work-life balance and adversely impacting their physical and emotional health. 2. Patient management challenges: Obstetric nurses encounter various challenges associated with managing patients. For instance, they have to manage multiple patients with diverse healthcare needs, including those experiencing obstetric complications such as hypertension, gestational diabetes, and preterm labor. They may face challenges in dealing with difficult patients, such as those with mental health disorders or substance abuse. 3. Medical emergencies: Obstetric nurses must be prepared to deal with medical emergencies that could arise at any moment. These emergency situations require them to act quickly and make critical decisions. 4.
