The first part reveals the cause and historical background of “primacy of characters ”proposed by Xu Tongqiang. The second part introduces the essentials of the theory. The third comments on the theory , with both advantages and disadvantages pointed out . The fourth part expresses my thoughts on the significance of the theory for the renovation in Chinese grammar study.
