Sensory Systems:
The Critical Role of Information
Technology and Human Resources
I think it’s fair to say that personal computers have become the most empow-
ering tool we’ve ever created. They’re tools of communication, they’re tools
of creativity, and they can be shaped by their user.

The nervous system in the human body is an important function as it regu-
lates and manages the information coming into the body. This information
can arrive as visual cues through the eyes, as auditory signals through the
ears, as touch through the skin, as olfaction or smell through the nose, and
as taste through the tongue. This information can be pleasant, repugnant,
or not noticeable. The amount of signals coming at the human body can be
too little, leading to lethargy and stagnation of the brain or failure to develop
properly, or it can be too much at once, overwhelming the system and caus-
ing undesired reactions. The nervous system needs to balance the signals it
is receiving from all the regions of the body, process those signals, and react
to it in the correct manner to ensure the well-being of the body. The role that
Information Technology (IT) and Human Resources (HR) play in the corpo-
ration is to ensure that all areas are receiving the correct information at the
right time in a manner that is understandable, allowing for proper reaction.
If you take the example further, think of what occurs when people are
exposed to flashing lights. The stimulus creates varying reactions from an
adrenaline rush and perhaps a desire to dance, to annoyance, and even to
seizures. It depends on how the nervous system interprets and reacts to the
situation. When the system is not working properly or when the system has
an underlying condition, seizures — or in some rare cases, death — can
