Abstract Respiratory diseases are some of the most common health problems in the world, affecting millions of people annually. Respiratory patient care is particularly vital, given the delicate nature of the lungs and the consequences of any errors in treatment. Despite this, the field of respiratory care remains fraught with numerous risks that can negatively impact a patients health outcomes. This paper explores the most common risks that respiratory care nurses encounter and recommends measures that healthcare providers can adopt to mitigate them. Introduction Respiratory diseases are a significant cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, responsible for millions of deaths annually. Despite the advances in the prevention and treatment of respiratory diseases, the number of people affected continues to rise. Respiratory care nurses play a crucial role in managing patients with respiratory diseases; however, the field is laden with numerous risks that can negatively impact patient outcomes. The aim of this paper is to explore the common risks that respiratory care nurses encounter and discuss measures that can be implemented to mitigate them. Risk Identification Respiratory care nurses face numerous risks that can compromise the effectiveness of patient care and safety. These risks include: Inadequate Assessment Inadequate assessment occurs when respiratory nurses fail to gather sufficient information about a patients condition. It can lead to misdiagnosis, incorrect treatment, and delayed interventions, which can have severe consequences for the patients condition. Infection Transmission Respiratory care nurses are at high risk of contracting and spreading respiratory infections to vulnerable patients. This risk is particularly pronounced in the ICU and in patients with high viral loads, such as those with COVID-19.
