Through the Tunnel Doris Lessing Author Biography Doris May Lessing CH was born on 22 October 1919 in Persia (now Iran) and grew up in Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). She is a great realist writer in the tradition of the major Continental novelists of the 19th century. In 2007, Lessing was the eleventh woman and the oldest ever person to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature. When he comes here, he finds some local children can not only dive for a long time, but also swim through a long tunnel. Because of the curiosity to new things and the isolation between him and these children, Jerry makes a decision to challenge himself by swimming through the tunnel, even though his skill and experience are not sufficient .In order to reach his goal, he does numerous exercises to success eventually, which also means the growth to him.
