Glass Fiber Reinforced Polyethylene Terephthalate Composites

Abstract: Effects of sodium chloride( NaCl) / polyethylene oxide(PEO) on crystallization and mechanical
properties of glass fiber reinforced polyethylene terephthalate(PET) composites were studied. Compared
with common nucleating agent sodium benzoate, NaCl/ PEO had a better nucleating effect and accelerat-
ed the crystallization of PET , and the composites with NaCl/ PEO had higher flexural modulus and bet-
ter surface gloss. Working mechanism of NaCl/ PEO on the crystallization of the sysytem was analyzed.

It was supposed that NaCl and PEO might react to create PEO-Na complex at high temperature. The
complex can not only reduce the glass transition temperature of PET , but also provide more cores
