K: No, not really.
M: You didn’t? Well, I loved it. There was so much emotion between Tony and Claire.;K: Molly, that’s rubbish. You forget that Tony was a machine. Yes, Claire fell in love with Tony, but I don’t believe robots could possibly feel emotion of any kind. That’s the difference between them and us.;M: Well, I disagree. I think Tony loved Claire. Remember he said to her how he didn’t want to leave her the next day and that he felt more than just the wish to please her?
K: Yes, but Molly, that was just part of Tony’s role. They made him so that he wouldn’t allow a human to be hurt.;And Claire was hurting herself by seeing herself in a negative way and Tony couldn’t let her do that. So everything Tony did was to make Claire feel good about herself. It had nothing to do with emotion – that was just how he was made.;M: OK, well, maybe you’re right. I suppose I just want to think he was more human than he was. Anyway, I wonder how they could actually make a robot seem as if he had emotions.;K: I have no idea.
