bstract: A 2-135 CI engine was m od ified to carry out the test for com bustion and em ission control us ing in ternal-external
exhaust gas recircu lation( EGR) by port asp iration and in-cylinder injection of d mi ethyl ether ( DME). The resu lts show
that the overall combustion process comprisesHCC I combustion, pre-m ixing and diffusion combustion, and that the combus-
tion characteristic is m ain ly decided by internal-external EGR rate. The resu lts also show that at an early fuel delivery ad-
