Show slide STEP 2 - PRESENT OPERATION Review the Job Element Sheets. As the trainer, you review the Job Element Sheets (JES) in detail to help give the team member an understanding of the scope of the job he/she is going to be responsible for. During the review of the JESs the following detail / information should be covered: Explain and allow for in depth observation of the JESs so the new team member has an understanding of the standardized work with key points, reasons and product quality standards. Review all safety and quality key points, safety/quality history on the back of the JES and quality alerts. Review all tooling/operator assist devices. Review all options and manifest blocks. Show slide STEP 3 - TRY OUT PERFORMANCE The Team Members cannot learn only by seeing and having an explanation of the operations, rather they must now go into the 3rd quadrant of our levels of learning. Having the Team Member perform the job is the check on the Team Member’s learning and on the message that you have tried to convey. In this step, the Team Member gets the chance to try out the job as many times as the Team Member needs so that it is reinforced. Select the 1st set of elements (based on job competency). The trainer should select a set of elements for the team member to start with in performing the job. Start small, do not select too many elements because that could overwhelm the team member. Have Team Member do the job with Team Leader reading the major steps. The trainer will take the job documentation (SOS Job Element Sheets) and read through the major steps as the Team Member is performing the job. Read only the major steps. Have the Team Member explain each major step while performing the job (with the document in hand) The major job steps were previously explained, but make sure that the Team Member understands everything as they actually go through the steps.
