That way if they are lost or stolen, you can immediately call and have them canceled and replaced. If you plan to carry traveler’s check, take the check receipts with you. But keep them separate from the checks themselves. Also, don’t carry all your money in one place. When you go shopping, put a few bills in a small purse and keep the rest in a safe place. Use hotel safes for your valuables– don’t trust that they will be safe in your room. Finally, carry your money and credit cards next to your skin. And at night, sleep with them under your pillow. You never know when an emergency will happen. If you are traveling by plane, count the number of rows between you and the nearest exit. When you check into a hotel, look at the hotel diagram on the back of your room door. See where the fire exits are. Then walk down the hall and find them. Plan an escape route. Before you leave, make photocopies of your passport and visas. If your passport is lost or stolen, these copies can help you get it replaced faster. When you travel, leave very expensive clothes and jewelry at home. If you look wealthy, you invite thieves. Stay in physical contact with your bags unless they are locked in your room or a vehicle. And whenever you stand up to leave somewhere- a table at a restaurant or a bench in a park- turn around and look behind you. That way you can see if you left anything behind.
