Oneofthetwomaincausesofprejudicepreventingwomenfromachievementofhigh-statuspositionsor

successistheperceptionofwomenwhenplacedinleadershiproles.Inanarticleonprejudicetowards

femaleleaders,EaglyandKarau(2002)[3]foundthatwomenwhoareleadersareperceivedinaless

positivemannerwhencomparedtomaleleaders.EaglyandKarau(2002)[4]alsoshowedthatwomenhave

amoredifficulttimeachievinghighstatuspositionsintheworkplaceandinmaintainingthesepositions

throughachievementandsuccess.Evidencesuggeststhatprejudicetowardswomeninleadership

positionsoccursmorefrequentlyinsituationswherelargerinconsistenciesbetweenfemalegender

rolesandleadershiprolesarepresent.

Eagly(1987)[5]suggestwomenduetotheirsociallyacceptedrolesaremoreoftenperceivedinlowerstatus
