This work is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution International License (CC BY). /licenses/by/4.0/ Abstract The Ministry of Environmental Protection is going to address a new stringent pollutant emission standard (GB13223-2011) to thermal power plants on July 1, 2014, in which the major pollutant emissions will meet more and more stringent requirements. As state-controlled companies, ther- mal power plants not only are the major contributors to air pollution, but also are important par- ticipants in environmental governance, which should be responsible for the increasing environ- mental crises and undertake much more social responsibilities. This work summarized the de- velopment process of emission standards and the status of air pollution controlling for thermal power plants, and then some measures and suggestions were proposed to control air pollution for thermal power plants.
