The output of synthetic fiber in China reached 24.854 million tons in 2009, a YoY growth of 9.7%; and the output in the first half of 2010 hit 11.31 million tons, up 13.8% year-on-year. The gross margin of the industry turned out to be 6.3% in 2009, an increase of 0.6 percentage points from a year earlier; the number of loss-making enterprises registered 304, a ddecrease off 9797 ffrom a year earlilier; andd ththe ttottall lloss off ththe lloss-makiking entterpriises amounttedd tto RMB2RMB2.5252 billibillion, down RMB3.4 billion year-on-year. On the basis of the figure at the end of 2009, the profitability of China’s synthetic fiber industry slightly rose in the first half of 2010, of which, vinylon, spandex, and polypropylene enjoyed best pprofitabilityy with the averagge ggross marggin apppproximatingg 11%; moreover, the ggross marggin of ppolyyester industryy that characterizes weak profitability also reached 6.1% or so.
