tocharacterizethecontentofadesiredphaseinanunknownmixture.Thestepsinvolvedareoutlined
asfollows:
Prepareafewsampleswithknowncontentofthedesiredphaseaddedinthemixture,which
shouldbesimilartotherealunknownsampleswithregardtoallthesubstancesinit.Thisknown
contentdoesnothavetobeinweight%(thedefaultunit).Itcouldbeanydesiredmeasurementof
thephasecontentaslongasitisapositivenumber.Ontheexternalcalibrationdialogtobe
describedbelow,youcanenterthedesiredlabelforthex-axisofthecalibrationplot.Acquirethe
scanpatternsofthesamplesintherangecoveringatleastonestrongpeakfromthedesiredphase.
ReadoneoftheobservedpatternsintoJadeandprofile-fitatleastonestrongpeakfromthe
desiredphase.Youcanusemultiplepeaksfromthedesiredphaseforbetterstatistics.Youalso
needtofitthepeaksfromotherphasesiftheyoverlapwithpeaksofthedesiredphase.Overlaythe

BringuptheRIR-quantdialogtoreviewthepeakassignmentasillustratedbelow:
ClicktheExternalPlot...buttontobringuptheExternalStandardCalibrationPlotdialogasshown
below.Eachobservedpatternwillcontributeonedatapointonthecalibrationplotofthefittedpeak
areasvsthephasecontent.Ifthesamepeak(s)isusedacrossdifferentsamples,thisplotshould
beveryclosetoastraightlinewithinanarrowrangeofthephasecontentasillustratedbelow.With
widerrangeofthephasecontent,thedatapointsshouldbefittedwithaparaboliccurve.
Enterthecontentvalueofthedesiredphaseinthissampleonthisdialog.Youcandosoeitherwith
theinputboxnexttotheHelpbuttonorbyclickingdirectlyintheX(i)column,whichcausesaninput
boxtoappear.Uponreceivingapositivenumberforthephasecontent,Jadefitsastatistically
weightedleast-squareslineorparaboliccurvethroughtheaccumulateddatapointsintheplot.If
thephasecontentisnotinweight%,youcanenterthedesiredcontentlabelforthex-axistothe
