Abstract:Inthispaper,alongperiodgrating(LPG)writteninaphotoniccrystalfiber(PCF)wasinves

tigated.Byselectinganappropriategratingperiod,aLPGwithapproximatezerotemperaturesensitivity

wasrealized.ByutilizingthepropertiesoftheLPGinthePCF,twokindsofopticalfibersensorswere

developed.Thefirstonewasalowcosttemperatureinsensitivestrainsensor,inwhichtheLPGserved

asatemperatureinsensitivestrainsensinghead.Whenadistributedfeedback(DFB)laserat1553nm

wasusedasthelightsource,astrainresolutionof~0.3wasachievedbyusinganopticalpowerme

terwitharesolutionof0.001dBasthedetector.Inthesecondone,theLPGwasusedasatemperature

insensitiveinterrogationinafiberBragggrating(FBG)temperaturesensor.Thesensitivityofthepro

posedFBGtemperaturesensorwasabout-0.015dB/.Ourproposedtwokindsoffibersensors

basedontheLPGinPCFarecheaperandmorepracticalbecausetheexpensiveopticalspectrumanalyzer

(OSA)willnotbeneeded.
