WhenDesigningyourGLCSystem:

-BesuretodesignyourGLCcontrolsystemsothatintheeventof

amainpowersupplyfailureoraGLCaccident,theusersystem’s

overallsafetyintegritywillbemaintained.Ifthisisnotdone,in-

correctoutputsignalsoraGLCmalfunctionmaycauseanacci-

dent.

(1)Interlockcircuits,etc.designedtointerruptoropposenormal

machinemovement(i.e.EmergencyStop,GeneralProtection,

forwardandreverserotation,etc.),aswellasthosedesigned

topreventmachinedamage(i.e.forupper,lowerandtraverse

movementlimitpositioning,etc.)shouldallbedesignedtobe

locatedoutsideoftheGLC.

(2)WhenevertheGLCgeneratesa“WatchdogTimerError”,GLC

operationwillhalt.Also,whenerrorsoccurinInput/Output

controlareasthattheGLCcannotdetect,itispossiblefor

unexpectedmovementtooccurinthoseareas.Asaresult,

forthepurposeofpreventingunsafemachinemovement,a

“FailsafeCircuit”shouldbecreatedwhichiscompletelyex-

ternaltotheGLC.

(3)Ifaproblemariseswithanexternalunit’srelayortransistor,

causinganoutput(coil)toremaineitherONorOFF,amajor

accidentcanoccur.Topreventthis,besuretosetupexternal

watchdogcircuitsthatwillmonitorvitaloutputsignals.

-BesuretodesignacircuitthatwillsupplypowertotheGLC’sI/O

unitbeforestartinguptheGLC.IftheGLC’sinternalprogram

entersRUNmodepriortotheI/Ounit’sloadcontrolpowerturn-

ingON,anincorrectoutput(signal)ormalfunctioncouldcause

anaccidenttooccur.

-Besuretodesignaprogramthatwillensurethesafetyofthe

user’ssystem,intheeventofaGLCdisplayorcontrolerror,orin

theeventofeitheradatatransmissionerrororpowerfailurebe-
