Thisreportisbasedontheinterpreter’sEnglishtoChinesemockinterpretingpracticefor
theCrisisinAdolescentMentalHealthForum.Thesourcematerialis58minuteslongandthe
wholeconsecutiveinterpretingpracticelastsfortwohoursandsevenminutes.AttheForum,
fourspeakersdeliverimpromptuspeechestoanswerthequestionsraisedbythehostwithout
anypreviouslywrittentexts.Duetothecolloquialstyleofimpromptuspeech,theinterpreter
encounterssomedifficultiesduringthemockinterpretingpracticeandthemaindifficulties
areinformationredundancyandambiguity,loosetextstructure,andambiguouslogicwhich
canbesolvedbyreformulationskills.Reformulationisanimportantinterpretingskilland
somescholarshaveproposedsomespecificreformulationstrategies.Afteranalyzingthe
transcriptofthismockpractice,theinterpreterfindsthatthestrategiesofomission,
compression,andexplicitationcanhelptheinterpreterdealwiththeabovethreemain
difficultiesinthisEnglishtoChineseconsecutiveinterpretingmockpractice.
Thisreportfocusesonusingthreereformulationstrategies,namelycompression,
omission,andexplicitation,tosolvethreedifficultiesposedbythisEnglish-Chinese
consecutiveinterpretingmockpracticeandthenconveythemessagesofthespeakers
faithfully,clearly,andconcisely.Theinterpreterhopesthatthisreportcanprovidesuggestions
orreferencesforfutureinterpretinglearners.
