1.certain某个；某些，形容词。

【用法】

（1）放名词前。

[例]acertainfriendofhis。

（2）becertaintodosth.一定做某事。

[例]Wearecertaintowinthefootballmatch.

2.medicine药，药物（尤指口服的药水），名词（不可数）。

【用法】

takemedicine吃药。

[例]Youcantakemedicinethreetimesaday.

3.than比，介词。

【用法】

该词前用形容词或副词的比较级。

[例]SheistallerthanI./HerunsfasterthanHenry.

4.remain继续，依然（保持某种状态），动词（系动词）。

【用法】

后接形容词、名词、动词不定式、介词和形容词短语等作表语，指某人或某事仍保持某种状态。

[例]Theyremainedcalmwhentheywereindanger./Theyremainedgoodfriends./Itremainedasecret.

5.another另一个，别的，限定词。

【用法】

（1）指代三个或三个以上的另一个，既可以作为代词使用，也可以作为形容词使用。

[例]You’dbettertryandfindanotherjob.

（2）后接单数可数名词，表示“另一个”的意思。

[例]Iwantanotherbook.

（3）another用于在原有基础上再增加一个，表示“增加的”或“额外的”。

[例]CouldIhaveanotherpieceofbread?

（4）当复数名词前有基数词或few修饰时，也可以用another。

[例]Weneedanotherthreechairs.

6.connection（两个事实、观点、事件等之间的）联系，关联，名词。

【用法】

（1）表示两个事物、人或团体之间的关系。

[例]Theyhaveacloseconnection.

（2）表示两种事实、想法等的联系。

[例]Thereisastrongconnectionbetweenthetwoideas.

（3）inconnectionwith与有关。

[例]Ireceivedanemailfromthebankinconnectionwithherstory.

7.prove证明，证实，动词。

【用法】

（1）prove+名词或代词。

[例]Findsomesentencestoproveyourideas.

（2）provesth.tosb.=provesb.sth.向某人证明某事。

[例]Hecouldprovehisideastootherscientists.=Hecouldproveotherscientistshisideas.

（3）provesb./sth.+名词或形容词或动词不定式。

[例]Againhistoryprovedhimtobewrong./Sheprovedherselfanabledoctor./Theyprovedthemselveswiseandbrave.

（4）prove+句子。

[例]Canyouprovethatheisright?

8.similar相似的，近似的，类似的，形容词。

【用法】

（1）similartosb./sth.与某人/某物相似。

[例]Herinterestsaresimilartomine.

（2）similarinsth.在某方面相似。

[例]Thetwocitiesaresimilarinsize.

9.add添加，增加，动词。

【用法】

（1）既可作及物动词，又可用作不及物动词。

[例]Iftheteaistoostrong,addsomemorehotwater．

（2）addto增添，增加，增进。

[例]Thebadweatheraddedtoourdifficulties./Hedidnothingbutaddtoourtrouble.

（3）add...to...把……加到……上,是把加到之后或之中。
