Abstract: A 1. 6 GHz 2- $ fra tional-n frequen y synthesizer is presented, whi h is implemented in 3- V 0. 35-Lm
BiCMOS pro ess. A novel 24-b fourth-order 2- $ modulator is employ ed to a hieve low in-band phase-noise, agile
sw it hing, and fine frequen y resolut ion less than 1 H z with 20 M Hz referen e frequen y has been a hieved. Simula-
tion results show that the proposed system has a rapid sw it hing time of 25 Ls, whi h meets the requirements of the
personal mobile system( PH S) standard. The synthesizer has a 1. 8% frequen y tuning range from 1. 615 GH z to
1. 645 GH z. It dissipates 20 mW of pow er and o upies an a tive area of 1. 7 mm @ 0. 8 mm in luding 1 mm @ 0. 4
