Abstract:Uncontrolledhemorrhage is the leading causeof unpreventableaccidents, massive hemorrhageduring
surgery and battlefield casualty.Effective control of hemorrhage can reduce the deaths and save lives signifi-
cantly.Hemostasis material consisting of chitosan or their derivative involves many excellences such as non-
toxicity, antibacterial action, biodegradability and the stimulation inwoundhealing.Thepurposeof this article
is to summarize the research progressin the chitosan hemostaticmaterials, hemostaticevaluation, and mecha-
nism of hemostasis.Finally, the development of chitosan hemostatic materials in the future will tend to func-
tionalize hemostatic materials, such asacceleration of woundedhealing, synergichemostasisunder help of drug
or thrombin.
