Abstract:InordertotesttheaccuracyoftheusuallyusedfixedcalibrationfactorofthecanopyscannerofLAI2000
formeasuringtheleafareaindex(LAI),aLarixprincipisrupprechtiiplantationwaschoseninthesmallwatershedof
XiangshuihelocatedattheLiupanMountainsofNingxiaHuiAutonomousRegionofNWChina,theLAIwasmeas
uredinOctober2010,aperiodfromfullcanopytothetotalfallofneedles,byusingboththeLAI2000andlitter
fallcollectionmethod.Then,acomparisonwasmadebetweentheLAIvaluesdeterminedbythelitterfallcollection
andthatcalculatedbasedonthefiguresreadfromLAI2000andthefixedcalibrationfactor(1.49).Itshowedthat
theaverageofLAImeasurementsofthe2methodswasveryclose,withadifferenceofonly5%.However,thecal
culatedLAIfromLAI2000wasobviouslyhigherthanthetruevaluesdeterminedbylitterfallcollectionwhenthe
canopywasfullofneedles;andobviouslylowerthanthetruevaluewhenthecanopywassparsea
