Seeding Sludge and Startup Strategy for Anamm ox B ioreactor

Abs tract: The low yield and long doubling tmi e of anammox bacteria cause slow startup of anam
mox bioreactor and restrict its engineering application. Therefore, it is mi portant to select the right see
ding sludge and startup strategy for anammox bioreactor. The basic principles, startup strategy and
effect of using conventional activated sludge as seeding sludge for anammox bioreactor are introduced.
Based on the analysis of startup processof the first fullscale anammox reactor in theworld, the stepby
step enrichment strategy of lab, pilotand fullscale is proposed to accelerate the startup of fullscale
anammox bioreactor.
