Introduction:
Theutilizationofmethaneasacleanenergysourcehasdrawnincreasingattentionduetoitsabundantreservesandlowcarboncontent.Meanwhile,carbondioxideisamajorgreenhousegascontributingtoclimatechange.Thereformingofmethaneandcarbondioxidehasbeenconsideredasapromisingwaytoproducesyngas,whichcanbefurtherconvertedintofuelsandvaluablechemicals.Inthisregard,thedevelopmentandoptimizationofcatalystsformethane-carbondioxidereformingiscrucial.
Objectives:
ThisstudyaimstoinvestigatetheperformanceofNi-CaO-ZrO2catalystinmethane-carbondioxidereformingreaction.Morespecifically,theobjectivesare:
1.SynthesizeandcharacterizeNi-CaO-ZrO2catalystswithvaryingcompositions.
2.Evaluatethecatalyticactivity,selectivity,andstabilityofNi-CaO-ZrO2catalystsinmethane-carbondioxidereformingreactionundervariousreactionconditions.
3.Investigatetheeffectofcatalystcomposition,reactiontemperature,H2O/CO2ratio,andspacevelocityonthereactionperformance.
Methodology:
1.Catalystsynthesis:Ni-CaO-ZrO2catalystswillbesynthesizedusingaco-precipitationmethod.Thecatalystswillthenbecalcined,andcharacterizedbyXRD,BET,TEM,andTPRtechniquestodeterminetheirphysicalandchemicalproperties.
2.Catalyticperformanceevaluation:Methane-carbondioxidereformingreactionwillbecarriedoutinafixed-bedreactorusingthesynthesizedcatalysts.Thereactionconditionswillbevariedtostudytheeffectofdifferentparameters.TheproductsofthereactionwillbeanalyzedbyGCtodeterminetheircompositionandselectivity.
3.Mechanisminvestigation:Thereactionmechanismwillbestudiedbyperformingisotopictracingexperimentsbyintroducing13ClabeledmethaneandCO2.
