The Ultrium 232 is the entry-point for the Ultrium portfolio. It is a midrange backup solution, suitable for low-end and midrange server backup. Closest sibling is the Ultrium 448, an LTO-2 half-height drive. HP tape automation products feature the industry’s leading tape technology, LTO Ultrium, as well as other tape formats. Automation spans entry-level with autoloaders, mid-range level with space-sensitive libraries with high-capacity and high-performance and the ultimate with ESL libraries for the data center space. Traditionally tape has been the data protection solution of choice for SMBs, with DAT the most commonly used technology. Tape provides respected, reliable and cost-effective storage – for both primary backup or offsite archival and disaster recovery purposes. The same IDC study mentioned in the previous slide found that direct-attach backup was still very much in use, with almost three-quarters of small businesses and 43% of medium-sized businesses using direct-attach tape drives for data protection However SMBs consider that one of their biggest storage challenges is improving the availability of their data and their ability to recover data quickly. About 60% of SMBs are already using disk-based backup or planning to deploy it within the next 12 months. That’s a big number! Also a significant number of SMBs are planning to spend nothing on tape in the next 12 months. (26% of small and 19% of mid-sized).
