Abs tract: This paper calcu lates the whole valence bonding pow er bewt een adjacent slid ing faces of the
GP zonesw ith model L10 and phase(Mg i) in A l- Mg- i alloys according to the empirical electron

theory ( EET ) of solid. The resu lts show that thew hole valence bond ing pow er bewt een adjacent slid ing
faces of the GP zones and phase are respectively 1. 36 and 3. 32 tmi es of that ofm atrix A l, wh ich can
be used to explain reasonably the inside causes for the hardness ofGP zones and phasealloy hardened
or strengthened asw ell as different interaction mechanism w ith dislocation.
