Cardiff School of City and Regional Planning, Wales, UK) Abstract: Related theories and trends about the topic of travel behavior in different disciplines, such as urban transportation engineering and planning, urban geography and urban planning are first reviewed. In particular, it introduces the development of behavior geography and time geography, and summarizes their contribution to make activity-based approach as the front edge of theories to analyze travel behavior. Then, related theory and empirical research of western countries are both introduced here, and it is apparent that all studies should be brought into a more comprehensive and micro activity analysis to achieve their study aims. A research framework for travel behavior associated activity-based approach is also provided, along with suggestions for future research, which means that multi-disci
