Abstract
Thisreportpresentsthemid-termfindingsoftheresearchprojectinvestigatingthemagneticresponsemechanismsofplantstoenvironmentalpollution.Theresearchteamhasconductedaseriesofexperimentsusingmagneticmeasurements,electronmicroscopy,andchemicalanalysistoexplorehowheavymetalpollutionaffectsthemagneticpropertiesofplantsatthemicroscopiclevel.Preliminaryresultssuggestthatheavymetalpollutantscanalterthemagneticresponseofplanttissues,leadingtochangesinthemagneticsusceptibilityandremanenceofplantmaterials.Thenextphaseofresearchwillfocusonidentifyingthespecificmechanismsthatunderliethesechanges,andtheirpotentialimplicationsforplanthealthandenvironmentalmonitoring.
Introduction
Environmentalpollutionisamajorglobalchallenge,withsignificantimpactsonhumanhealth,biodiversity,andecosystemfunctioning.Amongthemanytypesofpollutants,heavymetalsareofparticularconcernduetotheirtoxicityandpersistenceintheenvironment.Plantsareanimportantindicatorofenvironmentalquality,astheycanaccumulateheavymetalsfromcontaminatedsoilsandwater.Inrecentyears,therehasbeengrowinginterestinusingmagnetictechniquestostudythemagneticresponseofplantstoenvironmentalpollution.Magneticmeasurementsarehighlysensitivetochangesinthemineralogyandmagneticpropertiesofmaterials,andcanprovideuniqueinsightsintothebiogeochemicalprocessesthatoccurinnaturalsystems.
Objectives
Thekeyobjectiveofthisprojectistoinvestigatethemagneticresponsemechanismsofplantstoheavymetalpollution.Specifically,theprojectaimsto:
1.Characterizethemagneticpropertiesofplanttissuesexposedtoheavymetalpollutants,usingmagneticsusceptibilityandremanencemeasurements.
2.Identifytheunderlyingmechanismsthatleadtochangesinthemagneticresponseofplanttissues,usingelectronmicrosc
