Abstract
Thismidtermreportpresentstheprogressoftheresearchonsimulationandsystemimplementationofpowerlinecommunicationtechnology.Theresearchaimstodevelopapowerlinecommunicationsystemthatcanbeusedinsmartgridapplications.Inthefirstphaseoftheresearch,simulationmodelsweredevelopedandevaluatedtoanalyzetheperformanceofpowerlinecommunicationsystemsundervariousconditions.Inthesecondphase,aprototypesystemwasdevelopedandtestedinalaboratoryenvironment.Theresultsofthesimulationandexperimentalstudiesindicatethatpowerlinecommunicationtechnologycanprovideareliableandcost-effectivemeansofcommunicationinsmartgridapplications.
Introduction
Powerlinecommunication(PLC)technologyhasemergedasapromisingmeansofcommunicationinsmartgridapplications.PLCtechnologyenablesdatatransmissionoverpowerlines,whichcanreducetheneedforseparatecommunicationinfrastructure.However,theperformanceofPLCsystemsisaffectedbyvariousfactorssuchasnoise,attenuation,andinterference.Therefore,itisessentialtodevelopandevaluatesimulationmodelsandprototypesystemstoanalyzetheperformanceofPLCsystemsundervariousconditions.
ResearchObjectives
Themainobjectiveofthisresearchistodevelopapowerlinecommunicationsystemthatcanbeusedinsmartgridapplications.Thespecificobjectivesoftheresearchare:
1)Todevelopsimulationmodelstoanalyzetheperformanceofpowerlinecommunicationsystemsundervariousconditions.
2)Todevelopaprototypepowerlinecommunicationsystemandevaluateitsperformanceinalaboratoryenvironment.
