The new m ethod s of tough en ing epoxy resin s, such as thermop lastic resin , form ing interp enetrating network s polym er, in - situ polym erization , thermotrop ic liqu id crystalline poly m er and core - shell latex polym er are introduced. Novel m ethods of toughen ing epoxy resin w ith rubbers, elastom ers, thermop lastic resin s, rigid p articles and core - shell structu re polym ers are detailed. A nd the m ethod s of imp roving in su lation, resistance to wet heat and flam e retardation of epoxy resin are also introduced as well as their m echan ism s. The developm ent and p rosp ect of modification techn iques of epoxy resin are p resented at the end of th is p a p er. Key words: Epoxy
