Introduction
Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output(MIMO)hasbeenawell-knowntechniqueusedinwirelesscommunicationsystemstoprovidehigherdataratesandbettersystemreliability.However,theintroductionofMulti-UserMultiple-Input-Multiple-Output(MU-MIMO)hasfurtherincreasedthecapacityofthewirelesscommunicationsystem.
InMU-MIMOsystems,multipleuserssharethesamedownlinktransmissionsimultaneously.Thisincreasesthesystemcapacityandprovidesamoreefficientuseoftheavailablespectrum.However,MU-MIMOsystemsalsointroducesomechallenges,suchasincreasedchannelestimationcomplexity,multiuserinterferenceandinter-userscheduling.
LowcomplexityalgorithmsforMU-MIMOtransmissionhavebeenwidelyresearchedtomitigatethechallengesandimprovesystemperformance.ThisprojectaimstoexplorethedevelopmentoflowcomplexityalgorithmsforthedownlinktransmissionofMU-MIMOsystems.
ProblemStatement
InthedownlinktransmissionofMU-MIMOsystems,asignificantamountofprocessingisrequiredtohandlemultipleusers’datastreamssimultaneously.ThesignalprocessingcomplexityinMU-MIMOsystemsishigherthanthatinSingle-Input-Single-Output(SISO)andSingle-Input-Multiple-Output(SIMO)systems.
ThehighcomplexitynatureofMU-MIMOsignalprocessingposespracticallimitations,especiallyinreal-timeapplicationssuchasvideoconferencingandreal-timegaming.Therefore,thereisaneedtodeveloplowcomplexityalgorithmsforMU-MIMOtransmission.
ResearchObjectives
TheprimaryaimofthisprojectistodeveloplowcomplexityalgorithmsforthedownlinktransmissionofMU-MIMOsystems.Thespecificobjectivesoftheresearchare:
