Abs tract: Presently, silica aerogels are the lightest solidmaterialwhich have thebestproperty in thermal
insulation and have the higher porosity, the lower sound velocities in theworld. The silica aerogels have
many unique properties ow ing to their special structure. This paper began from the history and the study
nowadays of silica aerogels, then their properties, their application in different aspects and their prepared
principlewere summ arized and their prospectof developm enthad been proposed.
