ThisstandarddefinesrequirementsforCr(VI)-freezincalloycoatingsappliedtoferrousmaterialsbymeansof
thermaldiffusion.ThisprocedureisdescribedinAppendixA.1.
Thesilvergraycoatingsareusedasheavy-dutycorrosionprotection(protectionclass6)forcomponents
forwhichoperationtemperaturesofupto300°C(e.g.,intheenginecompartmentorintheareaofthebrakeand
exhaustsystems)aswellasanincreasedcorrosionloadaretobeexpected.Sincehydrogenembrittlementcannotbe
causedbythiscoatingprocess,thiscorrosionprotectioncanalsobeusedforhardenedandhigh-strengthsteelparts
withtensilestrengthvaluesRm1000MPaorsurfacehardnessvalues320HV.
Theabsenceofatransitionbetweenthediffusionzoneandtheactualcoatingmakesthissurfacetreatment
particularlysuitableforso-calledbulkgoods,sincemechanicaldamagetothesurfacewillnot
