Abstract
Diversity of network services, especially the widely use of online video, news broadcast, network telephone, and internet meeting make internet became more attractive. But the characteristics of streaming media transmission brought a series of new requirements. While the ―best-effort‖ model based on traditional packet switching network, cannot afford consumption of modern network transmission. Therefore traditional queuing theory assumes that packets are mutual independence. It cannot provide delay bound guarantee and priority. So improvement of packet switching network queuing technique become a popular research area along with the increasingly complexity of network environment. Network calculus provides a tool to analysis and calculation queuing issues in packet switching network. It can help network and server know streaming media transmission characteristic more easily. Thus provide new ideas for network transmission service improvement. This paper analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of traditional network transmission control method, and then introduces strategy of network calculus, and discussed the streaming media transmission based on network calculus applications.
Focus on delay guarantee and transmission rate, this paper introduces a series strategy, including computing work load of current server, analyzing the quality requirements of streaming media transmission, and making strategy of transmission, based on modeling method of network calculus. Token bucket is used on traffic generation server to implement traffic shaping. Router analyzes work load based on network calculus and transmission requirements, and setup schedule strategy. And the whole network system introduced admission control strategy to main tain the work load.
