Hefei Winster Technology Ltd., Hefei 230088, China) Abstract：In order to improve the level of automation and intelligence for inspection, a method of developing CAD platform-based inspection planning system for coordinate measuring machines (CMM) is proposed. The system architecture is divided into four layers from outside to inside: interface layer, function layer, service layer and data layer. The operations and functions of the outer layers are realized via the support services and data of the inner layers. Among the key technologies, extraction of inspection geometry information is realized in two ways: extracting directly and best fitting of element discrete points; and sampling is carried out using step adaptive subdivision strategy based on regular distribution; path planning mainly involves section-line construction-based collision detection between surfaces and heuristic rules-based collision avoidance; automatic programming is implemented in DMIS format according to the functions and planning information. Based on a 3D CAD platform Open CASCADE, the entire system was realized and the relevant examples show that the system can accomplish automatic inspection planning task for common parts efficiently.
