The research and development of gas phase polypropylene technology began in 1960s. In 1967, BASF company established a pilot plant for gas phase polypropylene process using vertical stirred bed reactor in Ludwigshafen. In 1969, BASF and Shell, a joint venture ROW company, established the worlds first 25 thousand ton / year gas polypropylene industrial plant in Wesseling, Germany, using the vertical stirred bed reactor. It was named Novolen process. In 1970s, American Amoco company developed the gas phase PP production process of a horizontal agitated bed gas reactor with near piston flow. In the early 80s, UCC introduced its mature gas phase fluidized bed Unipol polyethylene process into polypropylene production, and introduced Unipol gas phase polypropylene process. Japans Sumitomo company also developed a gas phase fluidized bed process at the same time. At present, Innovene process, Chisso process, carbon joint companys Unipol process, BASFs Novolen process, Sumitomo chemical companys Sumitomo process and so on are the main production processes of gas phase PP process in the world, such as BP company. Innovene process, also known as BP-Amoco process. The main feature of the process is the use of a unique horizontal stirred bed reactor close to the piston flow. With this unique reactor, copolymers with very rigid and excellent impact resistance can be produced because of the narrow particle residence time distribution range. The reactor with near flat pushing flow can avoid short circuit of catalyst. When ethylene is present, a large particle copolymer can be generated instead of producing fine powder in homopolymer particles that reduce the low temperature impact strength of the copolymer and form an un
