Introduction The World Health Organization (WHO) defines maternal health as the health of women during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. One of the major concerns in maternal health is the increasing trend in caesarean section (C-section) rates, particularly among nulliparous women. In many countries, including China, there has been a rise in the rate of C-sections in the past few years. The postoperative period following a C-section is an important time for mothers to regain their physical and mental health. This period can be challenging for new mothers, especially those who are inexperienced. Therefore, providing extended nursing care is crucial to support new mothers health, improve their self-care abilities, and reduce the risk of postoperative complications. Purpose This paper aims to examine the effects of extended nursing care on the self-care abilities of nulliparous women who underwent C-sections. Method This study employed a quasi-experimental design that involved a treatment group and a control group. Nulliparous women who underwent C-sections were recruited from the obstetrics and gynecology department of a tertiary hospital in China. The women were randomly assigned to either the treatment or the control group. The treatment group received extended nursing care, while the control group received routine nursing care. The extended nursing care included individualized health education, postoperative exercise guidance, perineal care, lactation support, and psychological care. The control group received routine nursing care that involved vital signs monitoring, wound dressing, medication administration, and routine hygiene care. Data was collected using a self-designed questionnaire that consisted of three parts: demographic information, postoperative self-care ability, and satisfaction with nursing care.
