Component Analytical
Model (CAM)
1 Introduction
This advanced training course assumes a good understanding of how Flowmaster works, familiarity with the
operation of the graphic user interface and good knowledge of the fundamentals of fluid mechanics and
thermodynamics. Knowledge of the C# programming language or at least a similar object-oriented programming
language is also required.
For the sake of clarity, the training shall commence with a brief theory section clarifying the small number of
essential issues and definitions before continuing with a practical section dealing with the creation of a small
number of typical elements in order to illustrate how the software works.

2.1 What is a component?
Every component in a Flowmaster network is an object belonging to a specific component class. As an exam ple a
network can include a number of pipe objects with different characteristics (e.g. length, diameter, etc.). All of
these pipe component objects belong to the same component class and therefore share certain basic features as
follows:
a) Symbol
b) Data sheet
c) Definition of physical features, in other words the algorithm for the element, e.g. for pressure loss or
thermal characteristics
A component class of this type is represented by a component in the Component Catalogues section of the
Flowmaster GUI.
A new component can be created by copying this entry. However, although some changes can be made to the
